    Engine breather pipe

    Hello all,

When people have removed their EGR from the motor what have they done with the rocker cover breather pipe that feeds back into a valve just before the turbo?
My model is a TD5 but I'm guessing most newer defenders have this also.

I'm guessing you plug up the intake side and breath the air from the rocker to under the motor somewhere.
If so is there a chance this pipe can take in water?

    Cheers

I didn't touch the rocker cover breather, pretty sure you don't need too.

It tends to breath oily fumes back into the intake and then gets all sludge build up in the intake through from the turbo all the way through the intercooler.
I swapped my turbo/intercooler hoses to silicone ones the other day and there was a definite black oily substance through it.
Mine only has 40000kms on it and you can see the effect.
It also gums up the map sensor hence it needs cleaning every year or so.

    Blade,

If you want to do away with the adverse effects of the rocker cover breather feeding into the inlet look at fitting a provent.

Plenty of info. on the forum about this but not cheap mind.

Thanks Ian, I found a few very imformative posts about provent and will check them out.
Looks like about $170 for a provent but it might save more than $170 worth of repairs later.
If I bought a new defender with zero Kim's on it I'd fit one if these straight away.
When I looked at my inlet manifold it was black soot and oil everywhere. I can't imagine how clogged inter coolers get over time.
