New Defender 90 or 110 opinions on & off road

					Hi all,
I have been trying to decide option of either a 90 or a 110 new Defender...
The kids have left home so we don't need five seats,
80% of the time the Defender will be used for highway commuting 180km a day, I have driven a new 90 and it went well but the owner advised that short wheelbase vehicles are not as good on the highway as a 110 as tend to bounce more.

What is better for commuting, anyone commutes with a 90?
What is better off road 90 or 110?
I do like the look of the 90 and it is cheaper than a 110.

I have not driven the new 110 yet but have driven the Army 110's many times....not a hope in hell convincing the wife that we should have one....
I have just convinced the wife that I need a new Defender....

I commute in my puma 90. About 70ks each way mostly country road. I have a 110 tdi and its way more comfortable. Also off road. I love my 90 but if ride is a key consideration then your choice is easy. On a rough road a lightly loaded ninety will bounce you out of the seat!

I'd also consider the type of 4wd'ing you are planning on doing! I live in fairly steep country, and although the 90 is a great gully crosser, in long steep inclines with rock outcrops etc, the 110 is a better 4wd in my opinion. My new Defender 13, two weeks old, not only rides comfortably, but accelerates well, and seems very good off road.

 Hope this helps!

I commute about 140 kms a day (to and from work) - mostly highway driving during the week and as much off road driving as I can get on the weekends.

I personally can't understand your friend saying that the 90's aren't good for highway driving as 'they bounce more'.. how many potholes does this highway have?.. I don't have any problems with the car bouncing - and I've taken my hubby's Discovery to work and not found the 90 any more 'bouncier' than his. I think he is confused with highways and corrugation driving.. short wheel bases can be a little harder on the bones on corrugations. I believe that back in the day short wheel base drivers out in the country were often nicknamed 'Noddy' due to the excessive bounce when travelling over corrugations.. but cars have come a long way since then and suspensions are much more advanced than in the days of 'Noddy'..

Off road I find that I often have the advantage in a 90.. the shorter wheel base makes getting into and out of tighter spots a little easier, it makes going over wombat holes easier than in a long wheel base.. it's not all advantage though as sometimes the longer wheel bases can get to some area's easier than me. Both length wheel bases have their advantages and disadvantages off road.

On and off road I just adore my 90 and wouldn't trade it for anything..

I've owned both and IMO the 110 is a better vehicle on and off road, on unsealed roads I have found the 110 to be vastly superior. Yep, 90's look good alright but I reckon I'll never own another one. If on road parking was a consideration then maybe that would strong plus for the 90, not that its easier to park, just because you can fit it in more spaces.
