Depends if you want to be in the leading group or the following group............If you come onto a forum you usually find people with problems hence some people can get the wrong ideas about certain brands of vehicles.
Yeap my involvement with the Land Rover has had its trials and tribulations, so far I've never not come away with a way forward to resolve a problem, in some cases ways to stop it happening again, or in fact sometimes pointing me a to place to find a problem I never thought of looking.
The Corolla owner won't be going through the same "emotion" you are going through, more than likely already moved on and bought another "something else", and just happy to get away with their life. Imagine going onto a Tojo site and telling someone that you had lost your Corolla..............huh!!!
Get another one and remain part of everything that goes on here, if it goes out of warranty, get a workshop manual, some spanners and a big bank account, always works.............:)
In wagons you have the patrol tdi hand grenade, the toymota tdv8 oil slurper or playdough or you go a leaf sprung cart ,oops ute:D if you want to stay close in price.
I don't know if your dealer would do it but if you broke a diff/ axle would they pay you what they pay for LR supplied but you get them to fit Ashcroft?
They are still going to use the same labour regardless and you may save them doing the same job again.
I keep going round this hyperthetical (for me) circle... I always come back to either another Defender or a Disco 4.

My mate just got his clutch replaced in his 76 LC. Bad gear change issues not resolved - new gearbox is next.
It's got less than 20k on it - just for context...
I have twice now this year been fetched by the tilt tray in brand new 2012/ 2013 Prados (mine spec rent-a-car...)
Very good for the temper to be sat next to the road in 40C with no aircon waiting for the tilt tray out of Port Hedland or Newman...:mad:
All brands/ marques has their lemons, but only one brand/ marque in Australia seem willing to repair those under warranty.
To put things into perspective though, every one of the 6 no 2012 Troopies that came off our last significant project had $2500 plus of "non-warranty covered" work to be done to them...

Its been a long time between posts but I this one was never finished.
After all that I made the decision and went and bought a 150 Prado GX manual diesel.
It's now got over 30k on the clock and going strong. As far as reliability is concerned which was my main problem with the 110 the Toyota has so far come to the party. I haven't been to the dealer once for anything. Never even met a service manager (I get it serviced elsewhere to dealer). It feels strong, and drivetrain is bliss after the defender. There are plenty of nightmare stories about the D4d injectors though but I haven't torn one pair of jeans getting out of the Prado so will start going towards paying for the 5k oil changes and new injectors after 100k, but time will tell on that one.. :)
It's no match for a 110 offroad by any means, especially stock.. But it has surprised me with it's capabilities.
So to sum it up, I'm still undecided if the massive ups and downs of owning the Defender outweigh the straight comfortable line the Toyota draws... If a Defender and a Prado are parked next to each other in the carpark, a part of me always wants to walk over to the 110 and get in it and leave the Prado in the carpark.. Is that wrong? Do I need to see someone about that? But if I take the emotion out of it on paper everything points towards the Toyota, and I do love that it gets everywhere we need to go effortlessly.
In a perfect world I wish I had a 110 with the build quality and drive train of the Toyota. But that's never going to happen..
So enjoy driving one of the best 4wd's ever, even if they sometimes decide to leave you stranded for a little while just to make you appreciate them even more the next time they start... If you see a white Prado driver waving at you please give him a wave. He doesn't get any back from the Toyota drivers out there. :)
Depends what sort of driving u do, if you travel in a group get a Toyota coz there will be someone to pull you out! If you want to get to places by yourself or not have to rely on having a second truck just in case, than get a defender, cannot compare in off-road ability straight out of the box!!
