I generally support the chassis and the axle using axle stands under the chassis to take the weight off of the suspension then a trolly jack to get the axle up to the sweet spot. (this IMHO is more important when you're trying to get it back in)
I need to replace my rear a-frame ball joint.
I have the part, sockets, axle stands and a jack.
I know I'll need to get the old unit pressed out and new back in, but how hard / difficult is it removing the wishbone link? Is it simply a case of removing the 2 x 9/16 bolts above the diff, undoing the joint locking nut and asking it nicely to come out, or does the whole wishbone need to come out/off?
Is there any rotational load on that joint before it pops out? Which bit of the car needs supporting, axle or chassis?
Hoping to change mine this weekend coming.
Any advice welcomed
Thx
Jon

If you've benefited from one or more of my posts please remember, your taxes paid for my skill sets, I'm just trying to make sure you get your monies worth.
If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
If you take the whole A frame off it will make it easier to press the balljoint out and means you can replace the bushes on the end where it joins to the chassis. I am assuming it is the same set up as an RRC

I did my Disco ball joint and I don't remember anything super tricky. Unbolt the obvious parts to get the ball joint housing off. Press out old, press in new. Bolt back together.
Got mine off at the moment.
I supported the chassis on stands and took the weight of the axle on a jack.
It was easy to unbolt the a-frame arms from chassis.
Bolts connecting ball joint housing to arms came off easy enough with a bit of hammer time.
Ended up with just the joint/fulcrum on the axle. If you have a big enough ball joint separator I'm sure its easy to separate. I just about managed by loosening the castle nut and whacking it with a hammer and drift.
Fortunately I didnt need to press out/in a new joint. You can get ready to go replacements.

Look at the A frame bushes while you're there too. May as well replace them if they need doing.
Thanks for all the replies.
Does anyone know where I could get some SuperPro A frame bushes before Saturday?
Also, what would the part number be?
I'm in Sydney.
Thx
