Fitting out the back of a 90.

Spent most of yesterday arvo finishing everything off and assembling inside the vehicle. I hooked up Anderson plugs to the compressor as it pulls 45 amps a bit much for the fridge plug. Fitted the boxes to both shelves and was pleasantly surprised to find our little gas stove fits neatly into the box lid on the top shelf. Just have to drill a hole through the body and fit the Solar IN plug with the water proof cap. This way I can hard wire up to the regulator and when I unfold the solar panel just plug it into the side of the Defer. I am very happy with the way it turned out the carpet was much easier to stick down than I thought bit would be. All the materials came from Bunnings and electrics from the 12 volt shop. Looking forward to trying it all out soon.

Just a thought on the fridge easy access - did you think of switching the opening towards the side window and fitting a gull wing window set up from Dolium which would provide great access to it from the outside - not as easy from passenger seat though. Apologies if it was already mentioned.

I have looked at the gull wing doors but they are a bit expensive. If I was to go down that road I would redesign the whole back space and make cupboards accessible from the gull wings and put in a black widow fridge slide that lowers from the rear door. But that would cost a lot of $$$$$$ my set up only cost $200. :)

Here is the custom made cargo net all pinned up and ready to sew. This will stop the pillows and a soft bag or 2 from flying forward in case of an emergency breaking. We will have a go at sewing with our own machine but if that doesn't work we can take it up to the upholsterer.

I'll just say that gullwings are an unbelievable improvement to my 110 and leave it at that....

The problem with "solid" as opposed to "see through" gull wings is that it effectively turns a 90 into a Hard Top configuration with the associated loss of all round vision.

I've owned 2 hard top 90's in the past and the loss of vision on oblique angles is pretty severe i.e. looking over your left shoulder for oncoming traffic on any intersection over 90 degrees. I agree that they are great on 110 and above as you've still got your rear left window, but on a 90 it becomes difficult to see if you've not got a passenger to look on your behalf.

I know there are a number of guys on here with the gull wings on their 90's, but in the UK its actually a popular upgrade to stick single pane windows in the back of hard tops, specifically to improve vision. I'll have to be going on a year long trip with a full rear "build" before I personally would reduce the everyday usability of the 90 like that.

Has onyone here fitted these part glass gullwings to a D90 (available from Mulgo):

They should eliminate the rear visibility issue that Lou refers to. Also, any comments on their quality vs the South African imports.
