    more headlight questions

ok ive just had the 2000 defender at the auto elec all day with no headlights

he has tested everything and belives it is a multi plug behind the dash 'that he cant get to but has had this problem before( it took him 8 hours to remove and 8 hours replace including the air con )

is there a plug behind the dash that is could be?

he has tested the headlight switch

If it is only a question of power to the switch, then to save you a LOT of $$$ I would suggest running a battery supply (Fused of course) to a relay that is energised with ignition on only, (to duplicate the function of the ignition switch lamps off feature), to the feed for headlamps at the switch.

These Defenders are really quite simple but can be frustrating to get to some of the bulkhead wiring loom/ plugs.

Is it blowing fuses, or just no power at the switch?

    Just no power

Do you know of a multi plug between the switch and fuse ?

He tells me the whole dash including air con need to come out to get to this multi plug

Further to Justin's suggestion. Assuming the headlight switching mechanism is not faulty you could wire in a modified Traxide relay and power supply loom to your headlights off the switch and high beam stalk. If necessary take ingit + off another accessory behind the instrument panel. Circumvent the crappy LR factory DL wiring. Certainly cheaper and easier than 16 hrs to pull out and replace a dash for an illusive plug that may or may not exist. You could then upgrade your globes to see more than 20 m in front of you.

I don't have your problem, but have the traxide HL & DL wiring loom on my kitchen table for this weekend. Comprehensive kit and detailed instructions. Going with a new 95w/115w sealed HL and a set of 75W HID DL's.

    Cheers MLD

Has he confirmed the switch hasn't died?

I've had to replace a few of those in my time.

Hi Scotty, check the blue wire that feeds the high low indicator switch ,it can be pulled off the round connector , that's with ignition on lights on at main light switch . You don't say if you have parkers or not . I don't think you will have to take the aircon or dash out to fix your lights .
