Thread: Sleeping in the Defender

I'd be thinking along the lines of this vehicle, maybe hinge the board so it can be folded up against the side of the vehicle when not in use.
The other option might be to construct a hammock type bunk

You could check out an 88" Carawagon set up too.

In 1990 my wife and I bought our first car, a 90 turbo diesel hard top. That Summer and the following Summer we drove around Ireland and both of us slept in the back of the 90 on a board level with the wheelboxes. Great memories.
The back of the Puma 110 looks absolutely palatial compared to a 90. Have dropped hints to the wife about a trip down memory and heading off and sleeping in the 110. Maybe my hints have been too subtle...
Anyway it can be done, it just depends on how much creature comforts you want with your bed. One of these days I'll be off in the 110......

in my 110 i sling a peice of webbing from the rear roof grab handles and rest my thermarest mats on it{you only need head to a bit past hip as a solid base, } hammock the lower bit between the seats folded foward.
in a 110 with back seats out and cargo barier mounted at/near the rear footwell drop off i fit easily at 5'8
its colder and damper than a tent and youre car will smell like arse.....

I sleep in mine when the hand brake doesnt come. The storage box is same height as dash and i have cargo barrier type board accross one gullwing box to the other this unpins easy and clips in between the front seat on storage box then the othee end rests on dash with bit notched out around ash tray you can sit in passengers seat take ur shoes off and crawl in i,m 180cm 75ks have done this a lot may want to sound andheat proof roof better i,ll try get some better pics without matress

Could it be done comfortably if your of average height around the 173cm'ish mark, & Only one or could two shortages be squeeze on top of some gear stored on the bottom of the Defender 90

Well only took 3 months & i've Slept in the Defender 90
a 180x45 Pine Board with 2 blue foam camping mattresses two wasn't enough let me tell ya, still too hard for this old boy.

with a sleeping bag ready for sleepies.

packed up ready so i can 4wd with no rattles

Of corse this is not the final setup just a little test run i plan on removing the seats long term.
