New exhaust, happy, kind a, not sure

    Hi all

The exhaust on Boomer got holes in it. Went to local family long term exhaust place and given information I read on here asked for a 2.5" system

I now have great low down torque, but dont seem to have the same power on the highway. Could be just me, but it seems to slow on hills quicker than before. OK once you are moving, sits great at 100 or 110 just seems slower on hills, would this be right?

If so, would an intercooler from say Ali Sport give me the best of both worlds or I am destined for great off road down low torque and poor highway performance?

    Just wondering

I have the full front intercooler[allard] on my 300tdi 110, when i later had the 3inch exhaust fitted the turbo boosted up way faster but wasnt any faster on the road until the injector pump was tuned to match the exhaust, if you are going the bigger intercooler way the pump needs to be tuned to suit or there wont be any difference either, i also fitted a mtq water cooled turbo that turned up at the right price and an auto box, i average 10.7 L per 100 klms and it is a lot faster than in original form.

Who tuned the pump for you, or are you clever

how much did they charge for the exhausts fellas? & is the sound not too loud or drone at 100kph on either 2.5in or 3in??

Im still on the standard exhaust minus the centre, but I want to upgrade & get the best out of her as im running a TD04 turbo & soon will have a full size Allard cooler.

    Regards,

    Jeff

Sound is down, but I had more holes than I thought before I changed. All the holes happened on one trip, must have been just hanging in.

mine is the td04 water cooled turbo[from mtq], with the 3inch pipe i have a large muffler near the transfer case and thats it, not any noisier than the standard exhaust to me[no centre muffler back then], tuned at MR, as stated in my earlier post all these add on/upgrades dont do much until the pump is tuned to suit, mine was tuned after the intercooler[full front-but you will want a good radiator behind it-mine is wider allisport] and it went alot better, then i added the turbo and later the exhaust and it had to be tuned again-well worth the effort, mine is a work and play car with just over 420 000ks, great with the auto

Mind if I pick your brain a bit redrovertdi in regards to when you got it tuned? The Info may come in handy for Tonic also if he upgrades turbo & cooler down the track.

When you got it re-tuned with the TD04, did MR adjust the full power/max diesel screw on the back of the pump & then re-do the usual adjustments up top??

Reason I ask is that the on-boost compensator on mine is maxed out & is pretty good at the moment but I have found the EGT's after the turbo upgrade to be a lot lower overall compared to when the standard turbo was on her. for example I get roughly 280-340 at 105kph maybe 5-8psi cruising which is only slightly lower, then raises to 4-450 maybe nearing 500 on longer stretches on a slight to moderate incline still in top gear at about 12-15psi but say if I flog her in 4th up a steep incline accelerating at 16psi around 3000-3500rpm she really takes a long time to reach even 600. So even now there is a bit of room to play with to an extent

Have you found this is similar to yours? I was thinking after the future upgrades I may have to fiddle with the full power screw which to tell ya the truth I would rather get it done properly in that case.

The tune definately makes a world of difference. I've got a pwr core and 3" system with garret ball bearing upgrade, there was definately marked diferences after bolting everything on but the truth ws in the dyno figures after the tune.
Rob at Brisbane Tuning and Turbo did the tune, the 300 Tdi in 4th gear made 440 ft/lbs and 125 hp.
I've got a turbo muffler halfway and a hotdog at the back, it has a little bit of a drone at highway speeds.
Driveability is great, makes good low, mid and top end power, 4th gear up Toowoomba range see's the egt's get to 550.

Chang, i gave up trying to tune the injector pump myself, i searched the net and tried everything but in the end it was worth spending the money and paying some one in the know not to guess[thats the only time my car has been in a shop in my ownership, i built the engine/fitted the auto/lockers and every thing else at home] but it was worth paying some one to set the pump, my egts are 450-500 at 100ks and upto 680 on the Maleny range[befor tune i got to 770 at a slower speed], also remember that mine is an auto 110
