    Test drove a 2013 Defender

    I managed to have a test drive of a 2013 Defender last week. I'm actually considering a 110 station wagon but all they had at the dealership in Dubbo was a 90 at the time. I think I managed to get the general idea of how the new Defenders go. Having an old series three, the Defender was a marked improvement and even my wife was impressed.

    I got a price on a 110 which included a heavy duty tow bar kit and a bull bar with the on the road price being about $56,800-00. This included an additional three year dealership warranty up to 175,000km (six years all up). Does this seem a realistic and fair price?? I'm looking at starting to do some touring and I'd imagine I would need to do some basic modifications.

    Can anyone tell me how much long range fuel tanks, a cargo barrier and a roof rack cost approximately? Also I would be considering towing a camper trailer. I know the Defenders are supposed to be able to tow up to 3.5 tonne but do they struggle with this at all?

    I believe there is a special on in June as I am looking at swapping my 90 for a 110 as circumstances have canned. I was quoted $50000 driveaway for June order July pickup. This includes the LR bullbar and sidesteps. The tow bar will $1000 extra. They quoted me $57000 for the limited edition on this special.

    I would suggest you double check who is underwriting that warranty and what the fine print looks like, as I have heard some "interesting" stories in that space.

    Yes, those "free warranties", are usually not worth the paper they're written on, they're NOTHING like the factory warranty, & usually have all sorts of "conditions", one of them being, that ALL servicing has to be done by the selling Dealer.

    2012 Land Rover Defender 110 12MY
    I think that ones at Wollongong who do a lot of extended warranties, we got an extra 3 years for my wife's VW off them and no requirements to use dealer

    An unused 2012 model. You could get an ARB bar and tow bar fitted later or get them to fit the stuff before you pick it up. Not sure about the puma but the td5 factory LR tow bar was not compatible with a long range tank. It may save a headache by getting the bigger tank fitted at the same time as the tow bar.

    I picked my 2012 110 wagon up off the clancy ford dealership the other week and i got it 48000 give or take some and that was drive away. Use other dealerships offering better prices as a bargining tool. Most dealerships will deliever a car to your door if they are going to get a sale. Also towbars a roughly 400-600 plus about 100 to install if you cant do it yourself. Also an arb delux bar is $1360 retail and they are really easy to fit to a defender.

    Im am extremely happy with my wagon considering i cam from a px ranger 3.2 auto.

    Most accesories for the defenders are cheap compared to the likes of most other 4x4s, if you want to tour id suggest it. If you want to try mine out and actually see what they can do just send me a message and im more than willing to let you have a better go.

    I think to keep the extra warrenty you have to have it serviced there for the entire life of the warrenty and every 10000 kms but its a capped price service of $295 i think but havent looked right into it.

    You ask about towing and yes a 2010 2.4 Puma specs do say it'll tow 3.5 tonne but personally I wouldn't like to try it.
    That amount of weight behind a lawn mower engine would really make it struggle.
    But I do tow a small van with an all up weight of about 1700kg max and because the g/box has good gearing (others might argue about that) it does the job well, better than the Prado 3ltr I had previously.
    I've just had it remapped as well and that makes it even better in the higher gears.

    So from my post and b.p we have a 110 wagon for $49,700 (before you even negotiate )and the ARB bar and tow bar for $2,000 ish . You now have $5,000 + extra to spend on other upgrades.

    I'm really glad I didn't get to test drive my Puma before I bought it ... I don't think I would have gone ahead with buying it after just a short drive and I would never have known what I missed. The more I drive it the more I like it.

    Picked up a 2013 110 Wagon a couple of weeks ago from the dealer in Albany WA. Not the first one, but I felt I had a pretty good deal, second defender from this dealer.

    Fitted with Land Rover tow bar, ARB dual battery system, ARB bull bar and GME UHF, price $53255.

    Having an ARB 3.00 metre roof rack fitted for $1400 this week. A 2400 x 1200 x 2.00 aluminium tread plate sheet fits neatly into this (pop riveted down) cost of plate $105 from local supplier. Hope this helps
