    R380 shifter ball joint lubrication.

In the process of changing my gear box out for an Ashcroft recon unit and having removed the shifting assembly found it to be full of black oil/grease around the ball joint at the base of the gear stick.

My question is what did this start off as? How much lubrication of what type do I need to put in here?

    Cheers

    John

When I pulled mine apart, there was a substantial quantity of pale-coloured grease in and around the assembly. There was so much grease, that I was able to scoop some out, put it aside, and use it again for the reassembly. I would reckon some normal hi-temp grease (ie. what you would use for wheel bearings and the like) would be more than sufficient for the application.

Hopefully somebody more knowledgeable will be along shortly...
