New snorkel problem.

Does something as simple as an air flow fault put the car out of action until reset with diagnostics?

Does switching it off and restarting not sort the problem? It should leave a fault logged, but surely it does not leave the car stopped on the side of the road waiting for a flatbed:eek:

They'll say the norkel is the problem, simple. Won't matter whether it is or not.

Having said that, I'm calling install issue - the Safari will easily flow enough air for your 2.2, despite any ram effect being a bunch of meaningless marketing guff.

I'd pull the head off and see if half the packing is still in there, if not it'll probably be jammed under the filter...

Hi Tony,

The car is in limp mode so not totally out of action. Switching it on and off a few times didn't reset anything either. The engine fault light stays on and the car has no power to drive. By that I mean it feels like a road train with an 800cc engine. Hence it is off to the nearest dealer on the back of a truck.

If what you suggest is the case I will have to make sure that there are no children around when I call the installer. I don't think the language used will be suitable for their ears. If it is something as simple as that surely it would have come to notice whilst driving around in city traffic and 150 odd k's of highway driving before it played up.

Could be faulty air flow sensor, happened to me last week. Bruce Davis cleared it and have been lucky it hasn't happened again.

If the 2.2 is like the 2.4 - you won't see a rag under the air cleaner thanks to the "hiclone" style device in the intake tube in the air box.

No sure how the air even gets through that thing :)

I cut the bottom tube out of mine out when I fitted Nugget's snorkel mod.

Sure does, surprised me this morning as I turned out my driveway and headed up the hill - traction control came on from wheel spin :D

Ladies and Gentlemen,

A big thank you to all who participated in this thread. The Deefer is back on the road and I'm heading home. Does anyone want to guess what the problem was? It was the turbo house. Who would have thought. A bit harder to diagnose on the side of the road than in the shop.

The dealer said that the hose clamp was tightened to far back from the seal and as a result damaged the hose. I'm pretty sure I had heard of this exact problem by other AULRO Forum members. What annoys me the most is that the dealer had encountered this problem and put it down to poor factory fitting. If dealers know of this potential problem from the factory doesn't it make sense to check it before the car gets handed over at purchase.
