I had silt in the tank of my 6mth old MY09, over a liter of water and muddy silt. It ruined the fuel system and was going to cost $15,000 to fix. Originally went through insurance to claim thinking it was due to servo. Servo confirmed no one else had issues. Silt is very unlikely to come out of the pump - it will settle in the tank.

I successfully proved it was due to the faulty location for the fuel tank breather. It was positioned directly behind the rear wheel and picked up road silt. I do a lot of dirt road driving and that same silt was what was found in the tank. A significant amount.

So I would check that fuel tank breather and make sure it's connected correctly. Don't forget as fuel is used - air has to get back into the tank. If the breather was blocked - it will suck in air from somewhere else - like the fuel filler cap or any other slightly leaking seam.

The dealer will have checked the breather already.

Your cap being locked gives no security at all.
pre puma defender keys will open other pre puma door locks just not the ignition. A fuel cap will be in the same boat as door locks....Id bet $50 I could open your fuel cap without any damage and replace it again.....sounds like you ****ed someone off to be honest.

Odd though.....I lost my RRC to a 3m king tide, yet no sand in my tank! Just lots of salty water

worst possible news form the Dealer today.

tanks has been flushed, lines flished and new filter, put back together with new diesel and still having the same issue, it looks like the sand has gone through the system and mc-fudged it all up. .

someone please tell me there is something else that can cause my issue?

build the revs up slow and they build to a certain point then it dies out and the engine shakes like crazy.

plant the foot flat and the engine dies out and shakes like crazy

intercooler pipes have all be re-done aswell. . . .

Im at a loss, and I cannot afford the bill if I am to go ahead with the proposed repair (check pump and injectors and vcd and replace stuffed parts and all the labour) Im running on empty as it is affording the car. .

    halp?

    Tank breather

Check the breather tube to see its attached and if its all in the right place if kinked it could have become a vacuum as tank level dropped and sucked sand in . No other obvious cause other than sabotage .

Sounds like injector pump to me at a guess without looking at it.
Like I said in my previous post before mods edited it......was probably the route cause of your pump failure in townsville but a tech isn't gonna drop your tank just to have a looksie unless debris was found in your filter as warranty won't pay for the time to check the tank without a good reason.

If it were me personally I'd be buying a genuine pump and injectors straight from the uk. Easily save yourself a few hundred that way but you will a) have to wait longer and b) most likely upset the dealer as they hate customer provided parts.

And are you saying the intercooler pipes have to be redone or that they have been done??

the Injector pump was replaced in townsville, and they won't honour any warranty towards that now that sand/debri has been found in the fuel apparently that means no-go on warranty on the fuel system now. . .

If I was to buy the parts I wouldn't pay dealership labour rates to have the work done either. . :| that was be astronomical!

im not convinced its the fuel system now (as it hurts to think about that!)
im going to get them to test all the sensors and give me the readouts from the computer (they should be able to do that?) and get an opinion from a specialist like MR or British Offroad,

*fingers crossed* for a dodgy sensor or something :|

If I dont have any luck there I think ill have to push hard at JLR Australia that if anything has gotten past the filter than it should be warranty as nothing should be able to bypass or get through the filter. . .

the intercoolers pipes have already been done yes.

I'd bet on breather, broken or missing seal, something of that nature over sabotage. I cant remember where I read it now but one guy found his fuel pump sealing ring was missing, how does that happen? If something as negligent as that was the cause might the stealers cover it up?

With the common rail fuel injection water is a killer right? If sand got in there, water probably did too no?

It's a tough blow, I hope it comes good for you. I may be stating the obvious but when you're back on the road consider a water in fuel alarm and extra bypass oil filter. Not something you'd ever want to happen again if you could help it.

Ill put that on the list of things to look into. Im hoping to get a LOT of kms out of this truck before I have to replace it.

Judging by the amount of really old LRs still running around it might see me out!

I think it may be worth your while getting a sample of the "sand" and trying to find a lab which can identify it for you. [i.e. finding the source may assist you]

If you PM me I can give you the name of someone to contact as a starting point.

There have been documented issues with the breather on Pumas, so I wouldn't be assuming malicious sources straight away.

Check with your insurance - you may be covered - especially for malicious damage.
