    double cardon joint question

hi all have a question hope for some help with, I am replacing my front diff on my 98 300tdi defender 110
currently running a 2 inch arb lift with a front double cardon shaft
which has about 70000ks on it should I replace the prop shaft as well
also was informed that the best way to fit the prop shaft is with the cardon
joint at the transfer case end is this correct? I fitted my last one the other way round cheers

I think if the propshaft is still good then keep using it.

Double cardin to the transfer case, single uni to the diff end.
    Cheers

My front DC prop failed on a trip to the cape last year.

I had a new one custom built by the Cummins Truck work shop at Cairnes.

It is the bee's Knee's 10,000k's and going strong.

Take your shaft to them and get it checked out.

There are wearing parts in the prop shaft, universal joints, centreing ball in a double cardin joint, and sliding spline, plus seals in the universal joints. The universals are treated as a consumable item which should be replaced when they show signs of wear. Failing to replace a worn universal can have severe consequences.

It is not necessary to replace the drive shaft when replacing a worn uni joint, but if the joint breaks in service then it will probably need a new drive shaft and it has been known for a failed double cardin joint to take out a gearbox. And also known for a failed front uni to cause considerable damage.

The moral is; while you have the front diff out, it is a good opportunity to give the uni's a good examination for wear, and if necessary replace them.
