It's called a bump stop
I think a 'bum stop' is, well, umm, err, I'm not sure....
Usually the Koni bump stop is merely a rubber bumper inside the stone guard, between the top of the stone guard and the body, this is why your compressed figure is s touch longer with the Koni's.
It needs to be removed before they dampers can be adjusted.
FWIW, 90 Series Raids use a hydraulic rebound bump stop, ie. it works at full extension, your 8240's just use the small rubber one for compression.
