I've got one of the common tube spanners for doing the hub nuts.
I usually use a screwdriver through the tube spanner to do it up quite tight while turning the hub by hand, then back off until its free, remove the screwdriver and tighten the tube spanner firmly with my hands (firm - not gorilla tight
).
Not sure if that's anything like a recommended method but its worked well for me.
