Well, under the car today I found the steering damper mount on the eye end had a fair bit of rattle in it. Other than that there's no play to be found.

Whilst under there I noticed just how bad the paint flaking on the axle has got. Half the diff pan is now exposed metal and covered in rust - so are pretty much all the brackets. That's what happens when you go axle deep through a salt lake... .

So seeing as my radiator has popped and I have no plans to use the clanger until spring has sprung - I've decided to put the old girl back on stands, drop the axle assembly to blast, paint and re-assemble.

Hopefully I can re-assemble it so that the steering is right n tight

Drop the steering column lower section from the steering box to the base of the column, check the unis for seizing.

Ah yes I changed one of those joints not long ago because it had play in it... I probably should have done the other one whilst I was at it... I will check it out.

    Thanks.
