    before you go blaming the box for play

    double check the play in the steering shaft and the ptiman arm.

    Thanks. Not sure if I need it yet as it appears some boxes come with the arms, some don't so it depends on which way I go.

    I actually checked that before I posted but after all your comments I went and had another look just to be sure. Box definitely has a lot of play as you can turn the input shaft (no play) a fair way before the output shaft starts to rotate. However, the output shaft also rotates before the pitman arm starts to move.

    Looks like I'll replace box, pitman and both UJ's while I've got it all apart.
