    New Ladder and Roof Rack

I got a good deal on a second hand Front Runner roof rack on ebay a few months ago. Finally got around to getting it striped down and powder coated.

I would have preferred the 2m version - but for the price I'm happy with the 1.4m.

Here is a couple of pics of the rack.

And I though - you can't have a roof rack without a ladder

So I bought the new version available from LR - the local ones made here in Melbourne as opposed to the factory one.

I like those inside mounts. We've been looking at the Hannibal ladders and they don't appear to have them (well no mention in the fitting instructions - just bolt straight through bodywork), can't help think these would be stronger?

    Anyway, looks good, nice work!

Is there any differences in the fitting of racks on the safari roof?

    The setup looks great.

    Hi Largerfan,

I have not seen the mounts for the Hannibal ladders, so cant comment on those. I would be very wary if any ladder did not have an internal support and the metal for the top mount (roof) would take a fair bit of load.

However the mounts for this ladder are very strudy indeed. The plate is about 2mm thick.

Was very happy with the overall product.

    cheers,

    Wayne

    Hi Dunnc,

I have not had a LR with a safari roof, so I'm not sure if this rack would work/interfere with the safari roof.

Perhaps someone else may be able to help.

    cheers.

The Hannibal is a slightly different design, the top of the ladder clamps on and sits in the gutter (see here and here). It's only the lower one that bolts through the top of the tub.

Anyway, I'm just speculating, haven't seen it up close yet, only reading the fitting instructions off the web but they've been selling them for years and they are pretty popular so they must be doing something right .
