    Dumb question about Puma's A/C

Can anyone tell me where the sight glass is on the system before I clean the engine bay looking for it?

There's now a number of shiny clean bits and it just looks wrong

My A/C is just blowing hot air since we got back from holidays and whilst I hope it just needs re-gassing I suspect its the HVAC sensor. So I'm looking for the sight glass to check for bubbles just in case. After all a flat battery and no A/C after sitting for 7 weeks would suggest somethings leaked out ... I hope!

Its a good idea to keep under your bonnet clean, but doubt you will find a sight glass under there.

my 05 td5 didnt have one either, nor does the drier/ receiver on the new custom A/C system

I was looking for one as well when my AC was blowing warm after 20 mins or so but couldn't find one either.

Interesting I'm glad it's not just me.

    The workshop manual says:
Routine servicing, apart from visual checks, is not necessary. The visual inspections are as follows:
    Condenser
With a water hose or air line, clean the fins of the condenser to remove flies, leaves, etc. Check the pipe connections for signs of oil leakage.
    Compressor
Check pipe connections for signs of oil leakage. Check flexible hoses for swelling. Examine the compressor belt for tightness and condition.
    Sight glass
Examine the sight glass for bubbles with the system operating. Check connections for leakage.
    Evaporator
Examine the refrigeration connections at the unit.
The receiver was the first place I looked. But I suspect you are correct and there isn't one. My thought is this part of the manual is just a cut'n'paste from some other manual. After all if the "compressor belt" was loose or worn I think I'd have noticed for other reasons

Turns out to be the condenser. Anyone what to hazard a guess what the price of a new one is from LR?

Let's just say, sit down and pour a very large glass of single malt, relax and finish the drink... before you find out.

Just did a check with 2 of my suppliers and both say OEM only.
Did you get a price yet??.

Take it to an aluminum boat repair shop, if he is good and the leak is get attable (if that's a word), he should be able to weld it up, had it done a few times now and it works a treat for $40.00 (last time)

I got a couple of prices and I've ordered an OEM one from the UK for less than 30% of what it costs here (and that is including freight from UK!).

Unfortunately welding isn't an option and a second hand one is about the same price as new from UK.

The local LR dealer here wanted to sell me a new condenser for the 2008 130 to fix a leak, they quoted, if memory serves, a shade over $2,000.00 plus labour. The condenser is the same as the unit in the td5 which can be found second-hand much more readily than a Puma.
I pulled the condenser and pressure-tested it myself and it did not leak, the leak turned out to be coming from the crimp on the high-pressure hose from the compressor.

I've had mine checked out so I'm stuck with a new one. The condenser is the same from Td5 thru to BAxxxxxx VIN (MY2011) after that its a new part for the 2.2L Puma. Did enquire about second hand but none to be had and price wise I can import a new one for not much more.
