Thread: 2013 door seals to older defender

scroll through this thread - has part numbers, cost, fitting instructions. I fitted them to all 4 doors - they all leak dust after all. Yes it was worth it but a bit fiddly as you have to locate and drill 2 holes plus enlarge slightly the existing ones. Having fit them you no longer see the light like you could past the old seals but you really need to chase up a few other key dust leaks too - especially near the rear door frame where it leaks in through panels gaps

yes, it is one of the situations where you really have to plug all the holes to get the proper benefit.

I've tried a few things to seal the rear door (including a new seal) but nothing has really done it properly around the bottom corners.

Looks to be worthwhile. I don't have much of a dust problem, not having a back door, as that seems to be where most dust ingress happens. Just something NQR about being able to see so much road when you sit in the back seat, particularly since one of those rubber cube things came off. Also I get quite a draft coming up from the bottom of the drivers door, looks like this should be a cure for that.

I get a draft from the drivers door also, I thought it was from the side where the door catch is, I was going to adjust my door slightly to go over the rubber a bit more but now maybe it is coming from the bottom, I will have to investigate and get these seals also.

Something else to consider as an option.

When I fitted my rock sliders I ended up with a huge gap under the door through which you could see the galvanised "kick" plate at the bottom of the front seat boxes.

I ended up getting some self adhesive high density foam (25mm x 15mm) in a roll from Bunnings and stuck it to the galvanised strip to take up the gap. The "unplanned" result was a much better door seal.

My 2010 90 (front doors only) has the older seals and this strip has stopped all light being visible, no dust gets in and its even moderately to reasonably waterproof on water crossings...

Last week I was out in innaminka with drover who has spent a lot of time replacing seals and dust proofing his svx and the difference between his defender and mine was amazing. Both of us had travelled with the air con on low fresh intake and mine was covered in dust inside, his was spotless! Needless to say I am now going to embark on a dust proofing excersise.......

SEALS??? Geez, you want the water to flow OUT don't you???
