Only problem with sheepskin is that if you go four-wheel-driving, they are a bitch to clean when dirty.
Was looking at seat covers and can't decide on canvas type or sheepskin, are sheepskin as good as they say? Cool in the summer, warm in the winter?? They are comfortable for sure![]()

I love the canvas ones. But only sure if they are chilly in proper winter?
They suit the car, in my opinion.
I had sheepskin in a car, never again. I don't like the thickness of them - they lifted me up out of the seat and the seat no longer hugged you through a fast corner. Plus I think it was about $70 to get them dry cleaned 10yrs ago. they are pretty plush and comfy though, not hot in summer - I live in Mackay Qld too where we get pretty nasty summer.
I have waterproof canvas style covers on my D90, they are EASY to clean and appear to be tough as. Not as comfy though![]()
I'd recommend a good quality canvas cover - I've got Escape Gear ones and they're great, much softer than most canvas covers but still proving to be very durable. No way I'd put sheepskin in anything that gets used off road.
I had my seats re-upholstered so now they are comfy and very supportive.
I've sat on the black duck canvas covers before but found them uncomfortable. They are a qualityand durable product though.
If you are after the canvas type covers, give Opposite Lock a call as they source theirs from a local manufacturer and they are very similar to the Black Duck but cheaper. I think the price was around $275 for a front pair.
The covers I have are front black waterproof synthetic covers.
Cold when you first sit on them but warm up eventually.
With these covers you still feel secure in the seat and I know the seats won't get dirty. Made to very high standard and very durable. Out of the uk.
Just gotta source a set for the rears.
Melville and Moon. I've been running a set of these in mine for nearly 6 years (across 2 Defenders) and they are very comfortable, with no bagginess. Most importantly they use a cotton canvas so are not splippery, in fact they feel very much like the original seats. They also look very nice. But they were expensive (~$1000)
In my other Defender I have a set of CamoCovers, they used to be a local manufacturer of canvas seat covers, but I don't see them any more. Those have lasted 10+ years with no wear at all.
Perhaps the cheapest seat covers I've found that were also excellent - were a set of Auto XS seat covers from ALDI. Nice fit, with very good quality material, and best of all cost $29 for both front seats!...
Melvill and Moon canvas covers are excellent. See Melvill & Moon

Mark,
If you're coming to the club meeting on Wednesday evening you can have a look at my Melville and Moon covers.
Expensive initial lay out, but they are by a country mile the best bespoke Defender seat covers on the market. The cotton canvas is in fact more comfortable than the original Defender upholstery.
Cheers
