TD5 Geabox or Tx input gear backlash?

    Hi All

Ive had drivetrain backlash for a few years and am now in a position to afford to do something about it. Rest of the drivetrain is sound.

Being overseas at the moment I cant inspect the input gear myself, but my question is what usually wears first? The Gearbox output shaft splines or the Tx input gear?

    Cheers

Do the transfer input gear first[should take 15-20 minutes] and see how much slop that takes up, i did it on my 110 and it made the car alot smoother, i know its not a total fix but it depends on the output shaft wear, and is a lot easier than replacing the output shaft[unless you have an auto]

I was thinking along these lines too. The reason I ask is that i have the chance to add a whole gearbox crate from Ashcroft to Juddy's shipping container which is coming to Australia soon. Could save me a whole heap but I guess being away from my truck limits my chance of making a good decision

    Thanks
