how do you Adjust headlights correctly?

can anyone please help me out with this, my headlights on my puma are pointing all over the place, the left one points down and to the left, the right points up and to the right.

what is the best way to adjust these to where they should be?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Leroy,
it sounds strange that your right points to the right....
if you look closer at the lens pattern, both headlights should be identical (points to the left, as we drive on the left side of the road.

and the manual tells you how to adjust them.

personally I would point them pretty high using the adjustment screw (with headlight level on 1) and then lower the headlights using the lever inside the truck.
    cheers

    The manual's instructions are attached.

Haven't done it but it looks straight forward (As usual the devil is usually in the detail not provided).

they point all over the place because I had to remove them to change the globes and I stuffed up the screws trying to get them out, so it is my fault they are all over the place

ill have a read through the manual (thanks)

actually yeah, measurements would help, but I suppose that measurements would change with tire size and lift?

I'll be needing to adjust mine soon too as I need to replace the units due to stone damage so can you let us know how you get on?

I once had to adjust the headlights on my Disco. I measured everything carefully and aimed them according to the instructions onto a target I marked (using masking tape) on the car park wall.

I thought I'd done a pretty good job and was happy with my efforts until I was driving through fog one night and found that my headlights were completely bozz-eyed!

They reminded me of Marty Feldmans character, Igor, in Young Frankenstein.

    The devil as I said

and exactly what I thought when I first saw it.

So the missing dimensions A and B are what you measure on your vehicle and then you use those dimensions to mark on the vertical surface 4 m away.

It's still devilish but that is the theory.

Had a similar problem when I installed my spotties, put the Ballast behind the Drivers side headlamp. If your experience is similar to mine the way the lights come out is not quite how the owners handbook describes it. Couldn't get the alignment correct until I found that I didn't get the leveling soliniod/motor thingy at the bottom properly seated in the lamp holder, mentioned this as from memory it was a simple but deceptive. Maybe it was me that was simple.

Also I ended up using a cheap laser pen on ether side of the car to ensure I had the middle measurement to go from. A small angle at 4 meters gives a big difference on the high way.

    Cheers Glen.
