    Boost Problems

    Hi guys, i was wondering if I would be able to get some help regarding my '94 110. Long story short, some water got into the motor through a loose intercooler pipe and bent the #4 conrod. We (dad and I) dropped the oil and replaced the oil and limped home. We tore the motor apart, had the head done up, replaced the rings and the #4 piston. We got it going and it was running sweetly after adjusting everything that needed it. Lately, I have been noticing that it has been difficult to drive, when taking off up hills, going from first to second, second to third and third to fourth, there is no boost. I have to rev it hard to get some boost to try and not hold up traffic.

    I was wondering what would be causing this. I was thinking that maybe a fin(s) on the compressor wheel has been bent. Would this be causing the boost problems?

    The only modifications to the motor are a low water sensor and a Safari snorkel, the motor has done 153K.

    remove the intake hose to the turbo and check the tubine fins, give a little wobble and see if there is any movement, up, down, side to side and then check the hoses for delamination. other than that not much could be wrong unless the tubo is u.s. hope ya get it sorted. cheers wally

    Sounds like there could be a loose clamp on one of the hoses going to the intercooler or back to the manifold. This allows the boost to escape. Might be worth checking.

    Check for loose clamps or split hose. Many years ago I had a split elbow on the turbo compressor outlet (cold side of the turbo) going to the metal pipe that goes towards the intercooler. Changed for a silicone elbow and the defender had a new spring in it's step as it accelerated much better when no leaking boost.

    Maybe we're expecting too much out of what really is a smallish motor allready pushing 2 tonnes. Just because it's a v8 doesn't mean it's powerfull.
