yep..

mostly it turns out to be water contamination and snot combined with poor filtration on the pumps.

Ive never had a batch so bad that I couldnt run it but then some of the stuff that I make em run on would have rudulph himself spinning in his grave.

Make a claim on the garage - still got the receipt?

Also most insurance companies will pay out on these sort of claims - this is not a mechanical failure as such but damage caused by an outside influence just like any other claimable damage to a vehicle.

Check your insurance policy - everything is covered except if specifically excluded in the policy - so if contaminated fuel is not mentioned then you are covered.

But - also claim on the garage.

And you don't have to be in the sticks. Several years ago I filled my Jackaroo with cheap diesel from a servo in Western Sydney - i had used it before and no it is no longer there.
Anyway the next morning I am on the motorway during peak in the fast(??) lane when big bang clouds of black smoke and no power, managed to get it to the side of the road and then had it towed to Holden dealer.
They cleaned it out and all good - bad diesel- well actually they weren't what it was in the tank but they said it wasn't diesel as far as they could tell.
Needless to say I am very careful where I buy from now.

Agree about people selling dodgy stuff a dieso. Bought some at the cheapy in Liverpool but didn't make it to campbelltown before the primary filter clogged with Sago like wax balls. Shook them out twice before getting home. Luckily i had a priming pump on the line for filter changes. Ended up using it for drip torch fuel and it would only light with 50 % unleaded. Absolute crap.

I normally only buy my diesel from reputable servos and this was no exception. I bought this lot of diesel from Caltex. One of those massive multi facility servos with a McDonalds and convenience type set ups.

If it was due to dodgy fuel, then Caltex will be getting the bill. If it is any other cause then I guess I should be covered under warranty seeing as i've only had the car 8 weeks

Its not just diesel that gets contaminated. Some years ago I filled my chev powered land cruiser and drove around for half the day and the vehicle seemed a little down on power but no real problem. Next morning it would not start (cold). After much messing around and checking the fuel pump/spark etc I watched to see if the accelerator pump was squirting petrol in. It did not smell like petrol and as far as I could tell it was kero or heating oil or something. I filled the carby with petrol through the vents as as soon as it was running it would keep running, not very well until it warmed up though.
