Thread: Isi bike rack

We've got an ISI extreme duty (extended beam) and I've never used the "Hitch Stabilizer" that came with it (the metal plate thingy). It does have a fair bit of flex without it but I always tighten up the locking bolt on the stock LR tow bar and that sorts it out. Have done over 5000km with it on like that and no problems so far.

Relax, the ISI is as good as indestructible!

If you want to remove some free play get a vertical adjuster screw fitted to your towbar - I had this done as I carry a moto on my towbar on occasion.

Lager does yours move as much as mine does in the video?

N plus, is that the bolt underneath the towbar? Sorry i just dont have another rack to compare it too.. so i just want to make sure its not moving around more than it should

Yeah, the factory bar had a bottom (?) one fitted and I got a side one added (or vice versa). My rack moves as much as yours if I don't tighten these bolts (and I rarely bother) - including my carrying bikes over the Vic high country (Mt Pinnabar, etc)

Reckon i should be fine then. I just had a fiddle with it. Moved the beam to the last bolting point.... mpre space but still not enough to comftably hold 2 bikes so i need to put an exteded beam on. I re tightened everything though and it seems more stable now. I should probably just stop worrying apart from needing the longer beam id like to think im fine. Lol

+1 what he said, but we only have the one bolt and locking nut which came with the tow bar and it works fine. I do generally tighten it and the bikes are rock solid, otherwise flexes like yours.

Give George at ISI a ring for your parts, great bloke and always happy to talk bikes and trucks! I think the ISI hitch stabilizer is $25 or so, you can always get one at the same time if it's bugging you. Basically it's a threaded hitch pin with a metal plate and nut that locks the tongue & hitch together tightly - but this is just doing the same thing as the bolt/nut which your tow bar probably has already - well it might spread the load a little better perhaps but I've never used it.

yeah, been emailing george prior to buying upto now... its got the stabilizer with it too. I've just tightened everything and it seems better. I'm trading the base in for the longer one through george too
