Why would changing to Penrite have you wanting to do double the oil changes?
I was advised by "certain people" to "change the oil every 5000kms", and penrite being cheaper is a good option.

That is not to say it is not a good oil. I just like using a full synthetic oils. Habit I suppose I have just found that synthetic oils are generally better. But each to his own.

A quality mineral oil will perform better than a lower base stock synthetic.

I own a vehicle where the manufacturer specifically states do not use synthetics!

    Think of it this way...

Would you rather a hot woman with silicone enhancements or "inflatable Agnes"

    However, to each their own...

Early changes are often just a waste of rare minerals for no longevity benefit. And a legacy of old men in old vehicles...

Not sure what oil you're referring to either...

Nulon is $56 for 5 litres
Penrite is $53 for 5 litres

    Both are good quality oils...

Those prices sure are not what I pay.

and as for mineral vs synthetic, like I said I have always found it that the minerals will be inferior to synthetic. At least that is what I have found from personal experience.

The td5 with one of the best filtration systems using the two filters is good for 20,000km, 5,000km changes is nisota running dinosaur engines.
I have been doing mine every 10,000km using penrite 10w-40, no major engine dramas for the last 125,000km. usually pay about $90 for 10ltrs but often get on special.
Check repco, they have oil sales on, there is a castrol 10w-40 in 10ltrs for $80.

I run Valvoline Synpower 5w 40 fully synthetic and have done since the first service. Oil and filter changes at 10000 km. Vehicle now has 165000 on it.

It is my understanding that synthetic is recommended for the Td5 by Land Rover.
