If you just want a false floor, then the easiest way to do this and not compromise under floor storage is to attach (bolt or rivet) two lengths of right angle alloy, one running along the length of each wheel arch. Locate the lengths as far down as your floor thickness will be, so the false floor is flush with the wheel arches.
To get the most strength and rigidity, you might try 8 - 10mm marine ply with a 2-3mm alum chequerplate bonded to the top. The aluminium will allow you to bolt things up without the bolts wanting to pull through the timber, and will provide a more durable and clean loading surface.
The floor plate can be screwed (say with stainless self tappers) or bolted to the right angle lip, allowing to easy removal for when you need cargo space with height.
