Thread: vibration on acceleration

Interesting...I have a vibe at about 70-75 k's under acceleration. I'll watch the suggestions with interest

Sticking slip joint in the front prop perhaps?

What model is it?

Is the vibration harsh ie Engine rev speed vibration, or a slower drumming vibration?

I had an annoying vibration on my MY13 defender - only occurred on hard acceleration - caused by intercooler hose touching steering shaft, well at least until the hose burst.

harsh checked all the usual suspects bearings, drive shafts mounts, I fitted new Hercules muddies a month ago am missing a rear wheel weight five each side compared to one each side on the front. king rimes
will balance it up when I go into cairns this morning still think its from the front its a 98 110 300tdi cheers

I had a harsh vibration on my TD5, turned out to be collapsed engine mounts. I also had a harsh vibraiton on a V8 Range Rover - torn transmission mounts. Just need a little contact between any drive train component and the body or chassis.

Also might be worth checking the exhaust hangers are still there and the exhaust is not touching ... - Yep my TD5 did that tick a few times.

One trick to finding the cause:
1 - Park on a steepish hill facing up.
2 - Put your brakes on and note the vibration
3 - Put your handbrake on and allow the vehicle to roll back and be stopped by the handbrake, not the level of vibration
4 - Now repeat facing down.

If the level of vibration increases when you use the handbrake - then something is amiss with the engine mounts or transmission mounts. - A very slight increase is OK, but you will soon know if something is stuffed.
