    performance difference.

im sorry if this has been answered already but i could not find anything specific to my question.

I want to DECAT my 2010 defender 130

Is there any performance diffrence between just removing the insides of my existing cat or buying a high end DECAT pipe?

Are the more expensive decat pipes worth spending more money for?

Also cant seem to locate anyone who makes an entire exhaust for a 130 high cap?

I see Alive makes nice systems for 90 and 110 but nothing for a 130.....any suggestions?

    thanks!

Just be aware "de-cating" a 2.4 TDCi may cause a surging problem. The opinion of a UK tuner I hold in high regard is that it's not a worthwhile modification, and if you want to do it anyway don't throw the standard cat pipe out in case you want to put it back in.

    Cheers,

    Tim

    Really?
I've never read any negative things about decat ting a puma.
Every forum I can find everyone says it's the best mod you can do for the money.
What exactly do you mean by surging?

    Thanks.

Surging under acceleration. I was going to remove the cat on my 2.4, more for the heat reduction in the cabin than for a performance gain, but I already had a slight surge in 3rd gear and didn't want to make it worse.

I would consider other mods, such a remap, intercooler upgrade, if you haven't already done them.

Hopefully a few who have actually removed the Cat will chime in to give some first hand feedback.

I would suggest a system for a 110 would just require an extra 20" of pipe to fit a 130.

    I de-cat'd my PUMA 3 years ago.

Power delivery was smoother, with mild but noticable power gains.

De-Cat pipe was fitted with centre muffler pipe removal at the same time. (De-cat was a TF 304 SS)

Floor temp went down... No question,

Floor temps went right down with the addition of self adhesive heat shield fitted to unde side.

Surging - didn't do it before or after.

I have BAS map and Ally-Sport inter cooler.

I have a BAS remap and Allisport intercooler, and I drilled out the CAT's innards as well.

No surging effect to report, only reduced turbo lag and lower EGTs.

    Murray,

I'd only add an extra 17"

I'm not sure I've really experienced any surging type effects with mine, but have certainly got a heat issue, but not overly worried about it.

Can I ask, what sort of money are we talking for these mods?

Can anyone say that there is a performance improvement with a decat pipe over just drilling out insides of existing cat?
If performance wise I get same effect why would I spend money to buy a new decat pipe?
