    Is there such a defender

    Just pondering if there is a coil spring Defer or late S3 that had removable door tops, coil springs, and a 5 speed. I'm thinking 2.25 but could possibly have an Isuzu in it as well.

    Is there such a model?

    Not in Australia, but any of the UK Army 90s or 110s (Wolfs etc) are as you describe.

    Alternatively fit S3 doors to your Defender.

    I have noticed in the pics of most Defenders I see in the USA, that they had the 2 piece doors. I'm not sure, but it is possible that it is simply a feature that came with the canvas top option, which was not available in Australia.

    Maybe best option would be to buy a decent condition TD5, and a set of new series 3 doors - and then swap the doors. The Defender doors can be sold for pretty good money if they are rust free.

    I have heard that there were a few very early 110 county v8's that were delivered in 1984 that has the two piece doors, but they were a 4 speed LT95, and as rare as can be.

    My first Land Rover that I owned had the sliding windows, coil springs etc. The previous owner had installed a 200tdi and 5 speed box into it and had really cared for it. I remember his kids crying as I was collecting it which made me feel really guilty at the time.

    As Bilbo said, if you hadn't asked for the 5 speed spec, then you could have jumped on graysonline for any number of army 110s with sliding windows, coil springs and four speed LT95 gearbox. You could buy one and convert to 5 speed LT85 or preferably Isuzu box, changing transfer case as well, obviously.

    Barney has a 1984 110 V8 that had/has sliding windows, whilst my Feb '85 110 has wind up windows. Both with four speed gearboxes.

    at some stage soon i will be ditching my doors and ordering some perentie doors

    Although not a TD5, I changed the doors of mine to 2 piece doors. For the Left side I used a new series 3 door bottom, and for the driver side I used a series 2 door bottom.

    Keep in mind that to be legal you need to use the burst proof locks that came out for the series 3, but also used up to about early 86. To use these on series 2 doors they need a hole added to the skin for the key lock.

    The Defender hinges are compatible, with series 2 and 3 doors, but I doubt series 2 hinges will be legal (protrusion rules).

    The defender door checks are not compatible with series 2 or 3 door bottoms, but there are relatively simple ways around this issue.

    Also there are differences between the latch for the sliding glass in the door tops, between series 2 and 3.

    thanks all. I am kind of interested in a soft top 110 as a resto and a beach hack. Something the family can legally fit in and get the wind in the hair so to speak. I guess it would require a roll cage. And I like the idea of forward facing seats and rear door, opposed to a ute with forward facing seats. Compliance is another thing to consider. Just wondering if there was an easy fix.
    Five speed is not a deal breaker, but is just nice.
