Thread: What springs to buy?

With the weight you're carrying (bar,winch & sliders) I'd recommend fitting the standard HD 110 front springs. They are the same as the standard front springs on the 130's and are P/Nos NRC9448 & NRC9449 - slightly different length between passenger and driver sides.
These should return you 110 back to standard height.
I have had these fitted to four 110's and are very happy with them. I could give you some measurements if you wish but I only have a bar up front, no winch or sliders.

Spring and shock rates should be matched to give the best results, so if you just make any old combination it may not work so well. You need some expert advice, I think.

Les Richmond Automotive custom made me up some springs for my 130 before I headed off around Australia and it has worked out really well.
I do have very unique requirements though as my rig is constantly loaded.

I know they do a varied range of different spring rates and heights to suit more common requirements such as yours

I'm sure the springs you get will suit the shocks you have already ordered fine. After all all you want to do is get her sitting level again

I pondered this for a very long time... and ended up speaking to Andrew and Les Richmond Automotive.

They are a little more expensive than some others but speaking with them you will get it right first go - and that to me is priceless.

Defenders handle really well and have great suspension but too many people run the wrong springs and either flop around the road or brake their backs with bone jaring "HD" springs that are not matched to the weight they are carrying.

FWIW 225pounds front and rear is perfect on mine. What works for your however will be different. (I have an Isuzu donk up the front)

Thanks for the replies all, what I want to do is shop around for the best pricing, but still need the expert advice so that is a little bit of an issue. I will have a chat with LR Auto and see what a set of front springs will cost.

Perhaps ask yourself too if you like the standard Landy ride. I too have custom Les Richmond springs at standard landy tensions. Andrew can come across as a bit cocky or impatient perhaps, but he knows his stuff well. He has a good range and a useful chart to help with deciding on his web site.

Be careful with medium, heavy, and heavy duty because what does that actually mean. I've seen a set of rear HD coils that rival something out of a panteck truck. They were only good when the car was chockers, otherwise it po-goed down the track. Valving within shocks also varies widely. In simple terms some ride firm, others ride more standard like. Some will fade within a hour of good use, others wont. Some don't like the springs they are pared with either. Actually the standard Defender shocks are pretty good for what they are, so consider a set of them perhaps.

Don't rush it,

I ended up going for King Springs, KRFR-03's in the front. Not sure on what to get for the rear yet, but will figure that one out later.
