Where to find the correct oil...?

But we are not talking about their recommendations, we are talking about the availability of a particular specification oil.
Although I do note that they say AFAIR (meets) the Ford specification which implies to me that they have tested it but it may not have been submitted to Ford and approved.

Penrite is pretty well respected by Rick 130 who I understand is an oil chemist.
He also recommends Penrite semi synthetic 5-40 diesel for TD5 while the land Rover recommendation is full syntheric 5-30.
AFAIK the main reason for full synthetic is very long drain interval, and ability to use a slightly lighter oil. If you change oil more often than the LR interval which many do then semi synthetics are fine IMHO.
The only reason for my posts was to identify oils that meet the spec for the 2.2 Puma so that members can change their own oil with confidence, and I found 2 oils that fill the bill to me anyway.

You won't find any of the very specific oils in your "local store"… just doesn't happen…

As per my previous post - take a drive to your local industrial area and look for the bulk diesel distributor (where the trucks and road trains fill up on account). They will be reluctant to help as you aren't an account customer, but they will be able to get you the oil with a little bit of persuasion...

Alternatively the local farm stock supplier will have access to Castrol Australia's products. A lot of new tractors have Castrol recommended by the manufacturer.

You will have to buy it in minimum quantities of 20l drums as this stuff is not sold in 500ml cans or 5l jugs anywhere in the world. An extra 5 liter per drum to 25l would have been great as 3 services would have fitted nicely, but those are the breaks...

It takes a bit of effort to get hold of, but then you did buy a Defender…:D

There's a couple of "Standards" for oil specifications. The US SAE system is the one we're most familiar with, and this categorises oils as Petrol (or Spark Ignition) oils with SF, SH, SJ, etc, or Diesel oils (or Compression Ignition) with CD, CF, CH, etc. Some oils can be suitable for both petrol and diesel engines, so will be rated SJ/CH, or similar. In each category, newer oil specs are given a higher letter alphabetically, so a CF oil is an older spec than a CH.

But many newer vehicles are coming out with Euro spec oils. These use the ACEA system, which categorises oils in 3 groups, A for Petrol, B for Diesel, and C for Diesel with DPF. The first spec in each class was A1, B1, and C1. As a newer specification comes into use, the number goes up. Most Euro petrol cars are now running A5 oil, and diesel is also B4 or B5. C1 was the first spec, but has now been superseded by C3 and C4 spec oils. A vehicle specified for an older oil in a class can use a newer spec, but one that specifies a newer oil cannot use an older spec. Your car specc'ed for C1 can safely use C2, C3, or C4 oils in the specified weight. Again, some oils may be suitable for multiple fuel types, so you might see an oil rated "ACEA A5/B4". I doubt you will find a distributor selling C1 oil still. Look for later spec C ratings like "ACEA C3, or C4". I do know that Fuchs Oil sell ACEA C rated oils in 5lt containers, so look at some of the Euro brands getting about instead of the big names like Shell, Castrol or Mobil.

Yep, all good. Read the Spec Sheet and you'll see it's ACEA rating is C3, but it is a multi use oil that is also suitable for petrol engines too.

2.2 has same filter as the 2.4...castrol 5w-30 castrol edge titanium it says in the fine print not suitable for DPF's the 2.2's don't have a dpf in Australia if it does remove it I say :D

I could only buy the oil for my D4 (I think it was Castrol Edge C1) from the wholesaler in a 20l drum.

Just had first service done on my 2013 110 and dealer used 5w-30 Castrol Edge titanium oil. Checked availability with the local Repco store and they sell this oil in 1 litre ($20) and 5 litre ($70) volumes. No doubt this cost contributed to the $500 first service bill.
