Mate for what its worth, I would consider putting out a call for members near you to give you a hand. Maybe price an auto electrician to do it. I would hate for you to somehow spike your ecu given its a 2012 model.
I am not too technical but having someone watch over my shoulder as I wire up some HID lights I picked up on ebay.
I have seen the wiring diagrams and it all makes sense to me theoretically I just need to now put it into practice on the Defender (2012).
I sounds like from my reading I should pick up a power supply from the alternator. I should also be able to pick up the high beam connection from the blue / grey striped wire on the LHS guard.
Where did you actually put the relay and fuse? Pics of where these are or good descriptions would be much appreciated before I go doing something I will regret later.
I also want to install the switch in one of the blanks at the top of the the dash. What is the best place to get a wire through the firewall into this space?
The approach suggested to me (and it is different to what I have got from the forum) is to get a wire back to the drivers side seat box for a power source and to install all the relay and fuse there. Sounds reasonable but I don't want to create extra work for myself - and I also gather it is in my interest to keep the wires as shot as possible.
Thanks in advance....

Hi,
Have a look at the Traxide wiring kit.
No affiliation etc, just a happy customer.
cheers
If you want to use the original dash switches look at this post:

Mount the relay in the driver side front guard (under the panel) and run a suitable guage wire back to the battery. There are a few threads on this from memory.
As austastar look at the Traxide kit for the defender, gives you everything you need except the land rover switch for the dash, and Tim is very helpful (just another satisfied customer).
The other bonus is you can get the kit for the headlights and driving lights it will save your light switch as well.
