Sounds like a fuel issue to me. Obvious perhaps, but you looked at your filter lately and the contents of your tank? Could be something getting sucked somewhere when you increase the fuel demand and settling back when you ease off.
Dunno if you can easily do this with a CRD, but blowing a bit of pressure back through the fuel line can help

Maybe just fit a new fuel filter straight up - they're pretty cheap and widely available.
Not sure LR change them very often during servicing.

Thanks for your replies guys. I have booked it into the dealers next week. However on my trip home from in town this afternoon it actually cut out and stalled twice in the last 3km. It would wind over but not start. I disconnected the battery each time for a few minutes and it would start and run but only for a few kms. This is somewhat worse than before. I have disconnected the battery and left it disconnected msince I got home. Rather annoying

G'day Eric,
Just wondering how you went with this problem.
I ask as I am having what sounds like a similar problem with mine (2011- 2.4), although not quite as agressive as yours sounds.
You mention that an EGR fault was cleared at a service. I'm wondering if they then replaced/cleaned the EGR unit.
Its been sugested to me that this is where my problem may be.
