Thread: Oil light gone.

youve probably just killed a connection or fractured a wire.

pull the spade off of the sender, check that its still making to earth, if it is then leave the wire off with your meter plugged in and wiggle things around till it shows 12V.

If that gives you nothing put it all back (assuming the sender still works)

probe the back of the bulb for 12v+ with the ignition on and then probe the other side for earth.

that will tell you which side of the bulb is at fault.

Putting the oil pressure spade to ground lit up the warning light, so looks like I fried the sender!

Not sure how that sender works but it would appear that a short to the sender, kills it.

I will order up a VDO sender with pressure and switch output. Bout time I had a proper oil pressure guage.

Do you know if oil pressure light is a roadworthy fail?

Wouldn't drive mine out the carport without a gauge. I changed to a VDO mechanical gauge for both the water temp and the oil pressure, tells a much nicer story.

its a simple spring activated switch, when the oil pressure is low the spring over comes the oil pressure and pushes a plate across the contacts.

yes shunting more than about 2A through the oil pressure sender switch will kill it.

yes, comes under the catagory of non functioning warning lights and gauges. but you'd be unlucky to get pulled for it.
