    Question Td5 viscous fan

    Quick question.
I think my viscous fan may not have been tightened properly by mechanic.

I can easily turn the fan buy hand and its speed doesn't change with engine speed.

I noticed that when I'm idling in traffic the temp goes up 4 degrees but when moving they drop due to increased air flow.

The car isn't getting hot in fact it doesn't get over 84.
I'm just concerned that perhaps the fan may come off.

I don't have the specific spanner needed. Just wondering how best to tighten it without having the spanner.

    Cheers
    Mick

Dont worry, even if it was only put on loose the fan will tighten itself naturally due to the direction the engine rotates. It wont come off by itself, you only need a spanner to undo them , its beyond me why anyone would loctite one one !! The viscous clutch on the fan will not engage until it gets hot, and thats going to be way past 84.

Hi Mick , My td5 started to over heated going up a long spur in the high country . Stopped strait away . I could still spin the fan by hand even though It was nice and hot . That told me the viscose centre to the fan had stopped working . See if It will spin by hand when It's hot .
