2012 Defender Engine Amber light stranded me.

Tried that twice when mine rubbed through, once whilst in the engine bay, second removing the hose to get a better fit. Both times unsuccessful, and all I could do was try to drive with a light foot, and the higher the gear the lighter the foot.

Max speed was 80kmh, it was just like driving a series rover again.

Mine happened between Roma and Injune, Land Rover Assist got someone there still and I had a tool to reset the fault code.

Hmmm, that's disappointing - I would have expected it to hold better than that.

At least it looks like you can still limp to somewhere using the tape.

I'm down at Austral Motors now they fitted me in without a booking even though very busy. Hopefully they can find what's causing my aircon compressor fuse to blow. It looks to me like moisture has got into a wiring junction below the compressor . I dried it out yesterday and it worked ok for a trip down to Brisbane but blew again this morning. I will not wash down my engine again next time it will be a rag and air line job.

Well it's not water in the wiring it's the condenser fan has seized. Each time it kicks in to cool the condenser pop goes the fuse. A new complete condenser kit on the way from Melbourne should arrive by 10 am . It will need. A ragas as well so might end up with a better working aircon than I originally had ! Fingers crossed.:):)

Luckily didn't go into limp mode I don't know if the 2.4 is different to the 2.2 in that regards but I did reset the fault and it didn't come back after the rescue tape was applied.

I'm really surprised a split hose stopped you. After doing a clean and degunk of all hoses, electrical plugs , leads etc , I failed to fit the clamp on the turbo-intercooler hose. I drove off next day wondering why it was so sluggish to get to speed on the M1. Suddenly hit me so I took next exit and got out a screwdriver and fitted the clamp. The hose had been blown out of alignment with the boss turning my turbo into a mobile leaf blower.....but.....I could still drive the vehicle reasonably well.

I know they are replacing it with a new hose but if they are going to just replace it with the same type of hose then that is ridiculous.

I guess I'll put in an order for silicone hoses all round. It's pathetic they just wait for peoples cars to break then replace it instead of recalling them or replacing them before they roll out the door. Even despite the fact it's a common issue reported here, I suppose I never replaced it myself because I felt it's not my responsibility to replace it and thought just maybe something has already been done about it since it so common.

Could I go so far as to claim lost accommodation that was paid for on my trip away that I didnt get to use because of this breakdown?? I doubt it, as much as I love this truck, the Toyota LC workmate is just screaming at me to buy it. And reduce the chance of never putting myself or my family in that predicament again. But it's just not the Defender and hence my emotional investment into this car will always keep me here.

Voltron, With respect to LR Assist, how did all this work. Was the guy that came out to you on the road a LandRover specific person or just an RACV type guy. You said they didn't initially take the car to a LR Dealership, so how & when did it get there? Were you held up overnight, because if you were, do LR Assist pay for your accom? Based upon your experience, how would you rate LR Assist?
