I noticed my rattle varies depending on the fuel used. Over in WA and NT, hardly any rattle, but back in Brisbane, it was a lot more noticeable. I've just bought a bottle of CRD and will see what happens.

I poured in 10ml of the CRD into the tank this afternoon, and went for a drive. Within about 10 minutes, the difference was noticeable. We left the car for about two hours and then on our return trip, my wife commented about how much quieter it was.
The noisy rattle between 1500rpm and 2000 is gone, and it is much quieter even when lugging around a roundabout in 4th gear at 1100rpm.
Not sure about what adding two stroke oil would do, but this seems to have worked for me.
A while ago, I posted a question very similar to this regarding engine noise. Had some really good informative answers :).

I might have to try a bottle of CRD
I chuck a bottle of Wynns diesel cleaner every 3000km or so and I add 2SO every 2nd tank.
Landy runs very smoothly ;)
