Yep mine sounds like that. I believe it's something to do with the common-rail injection, I've never worried about it as from what I've read on here it's characteristic of the tdci engine.

Can anyone with a Puma engine tell me if their engine sounds like a chaff cutter at certain speeds?
Honestly, its sounds like 50 pairs of false teeth going round in a washing machine.
I even asked to the amusement of Coopers, if the tappets were adjustable. Their reply was a bewildered, no their hydraulic. You idiot, Stimpy!

Hi. Mine is the same - only when accelerating between 1500 and 2000 revs - it's standard I believe ? Tried to get it rectified with new eCU etc , but no change. Had it for about 60000 KMs now ( now 110000kms ) car runs great though. So I'm just putting up with it and adding it to the list of LR idiosyncrasies . If you do decide to " fix it " and are successful , let me know !

Mine does it and it is apparently the injectors. I've got a remap and it's made very little difference.
At times the engine runs so sweet and then will rattle horribly for a while then off it goes again. Some say Transits do it as well but I've never heard one as noisy as this.
I've also found it helps if I don't wear my hearing aids........

SupporterMine had the same problem, turns out it was dirty fuel (moisture) and and then the car needed the injectors re-programmed... all sweet now.
Good call Danske, it would be good for any info would be appreciated .I thought a new ecu would be a reprogram. not that i would know, i just thought that ecu was the brain..
I'm sure someone will correct me ... if it not .... thanks
Just got the new Holden Colorado for work, it's engine noise is worse than my SVX.....seriously
