By the sounds of it a 360mm would be sufficient.

I did not want to go too small.

What size wheel did you get?

Babs, the Startech steering wheel is 360mm diameter. One size only.
Here are a few interesting threads of def2.net with plenty pictures on this subject...

I like that wheel, I was looking at getting a replacement one a while back but when I checked the ADR it seemed to hard, i.e. the replacement steering wheel has to comply with ADR10 and the wheel has to have a padded front, I took it that it meant it still had to have that big rubber cushion on the front, but looking at the pictures above, I would say that is padded, would anyone have any input on that? Would that be classed as padded enough?

    cheers

Thanks guys for those links, heaps better photos. I'm assuming that wheel is a 360mm and it looks like it's still over the top of the dash. I want to be able to have clear vision of the front of the bonnet without the top of the steering wheel being in the way like it is with the standard wheel.

Does anyone have one fitted that can tell me where the 360mm sits with regards to the top of the dash.

This is what I hate about shopping online, here is a good example where going into a store and physically siting one would end all concern for sizing.

Anyways, if anyone could help where they sit, it would be appreciated. Cheers

OK: I wanted to be in a position to quote from direct experience before replying. My Nakatanenga/Raid wheel has just arrived today.

I have fitted the wheel as per the photo linked here, lifted from one of the threads quoted above:

...except that my "horn" button is black/silver, and the stitching is black. The quality of the wheel seems quite good, it's a delight to use and it clears the instruments perfectly. It's 360mm, which seems to me an ideal size (at only 10mm difference I'd imagine a 350mm Momo is more or less the same, but can't guarantee it, as I have no direct experience). Also, the curve of the top "spokes" of the Raid wheel means the instruments are well in view, whereas I note some of the Momo wheels can have straight top spokes - will this also provide the same clear view? (Open question - would welcome a POV from someone with a Momo).

I bought mine direct from Nakatanenga - note that their web prices include 19% German VAT, which they may drop (if you so request via a direct email discussion). It ended up being quite a reasonable deal, very happy so far.

FWIW I have a 15" (380mm) Moto Lita in my 110. It is great. It is a tad smaller than standard and also a little closer. The smaller diameter isn't enough to change the feel but it gives me more leg room and makes getting in and out much easier (I'm 6 foot 1) with Scheel-mann seats.

The Moto Lita also has the Landrover logo on the boss. The quality is very good, but it does have a slightly english feel to it.

Thanks Skidrov, that looks really good on.

Does the top of the wheel still sit over the dash like the OME. I hope not, I'm trying to find out if I have to go smaller than 360mm or not. I want a clear view of the nose of my bonnet, which I don't have with the OME.

Skidrov could I trouble you for a pick from a seating position with a view over the dash?

    Cheers

I went through this whole saga last year and I found the Aussie made SAAS Star leather wheel (350mm) was to my liking, I also looked at the offerings from landrovertuning, momo etc.

I fitted it to a Momo boss, part no. HUB K5613.

The horn button with the Landrover logo I purchased from a member on defender2.net who had them made in metal.

As you can see none of the gauges are obscured and the wheel rim moved closer to me by 12mm. Overal it is much nicer to drive with I think plus you get the benefit of not banging your legs when getting in.

    Plus, all up under $300.
