Thread: Best adhesive to secure door rubbers

There are probably other glues made specifically for rubber, but I use a contact adhesive, for example, Kwik Grip from Bunnings, to stick rubber buffers to powder coat. It's normally applied to both surfaces then pressed together after it dries. Where you've got to slide something on it can be applied wet, but you'll have to hold it in place until it dries.
Silicone wont stick to rubber very well at all.

IMO contact is great in the right conditions. Flexability and weather are not those.

I used Sikaflex to fix the rubber vent seals to the bulkhead on my 110. I did this about 13 years ago. My car has spent pretty much every day of its life outside (no garage) The bond is still excellent. The vents have bent, the rubber is starting to fail, but the bond between the Sikaflex, rubber and painted bulkhead is still great.

Remeber Sikaflex is a brand that makes many many types. Im pretty sure you can buy the Sikaflex windscreen adhesive from Bunnings, if not you can at least get the marine adhesive there. Remember most of thes are also sealants.

Read back of cartridge for info or google Sikaflex.

BTW if bonding to aluminium (raw) you have to etch the aluminum. Methol ethol keytone works (plumbers cleaning agent), same with PVC type plastic.
