    It doesn't sound good, but look on the bright side, you weren't far from home, with a mechanic not far away. Could have been a lot worse.
    Hopefully it's a quick fix and your back on he road soon.

    This happened to me just before Christmas. Turned out that I had sheared the bolts off the crown wheel in the front diff. MR put a replacement diff in and all good since. Worth a check.

    Got the news maxi axle and drive flange stripped,so all fixed plus a few other problems in the drive line and steering done 2,

    What lubrication arrangements are you running? Greased hubs or oil filled?

    I not sure the set up was in it when I bought it and haven't done any work on the diffs myself to be able to check
