no you will not keep the wheel tight and/orbalanced go for the proper studs and hubs
Gday I have just bought some Gecko steel rims for my Perentie. The centre hole is about 125/126 mm. The standard centre hole is about 114/115 mm. The studs all fit well(5 x 165.1) I know your asking for trouble if you mount alloys with that much gap but is it ok with steel rims? Thanks in advance. Paul.
no you will not keep the wheel tight and/orbalanced go for the proper studs and hubs
on steel wheels they should locate on the wheel studs. As long as the stud holes on the wheels have a conical indent and the wheel nuts have a matching cone shape you will be ok. The cones locate the wheel onto the hub, the tension on the studs holds the wheel against the hub with friction preventing movement.
As said if the taper of the wheels and nuts matches then they will locate on them, that is how steel wheels work, disregard post #2, it's false info.
Cheers
Will
I have a set of similar steel offset rims & the only issue is trying to mount them easily as you cant rest them on the hub to help. I'm the second owner & no problems to date, Suggest you check/ tighten wheel nuts after 50 klm after first fitting them.
Thanks. I have fitted them and done about 200km. All good. Paul.
Just one comment, the Perenties have ROH steel wheels as OEM which have a raised band around the PCD, this is designed to act as a spring to keep the wheels secure. Through the service life of the Perentie, the wheel nuts may never reach the bottom of the stud thread which can acumulate and consolidate grit. This accumulation can prevent the wheel nut bottoming out on the stud/hub.
When you fit other wheels without the raised band, the wheel nut goes further onto the stud using up more of the thread. It may be worthwhile cleaing the base of the threads with a wire brush or running a die nut upside down over each stud, just to clear any grit.
You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
Thanks lotz a landies I did that.
