Need to replace Air Con Electric fan - with what?

    Hi all

I started looking at my overheating issues on my 1998 300Tdi Defender yesterday afternoon.

Pulled the radiator out - copper core is starting to break down, so just ordered a new radiator. I also ordered a new viscous fan.

I then discovered that the air con electric fan was siezed - could hardly turn it by hand.

Do i just get a generic Davies Craig fan as a replacement? Can I just wire up directly to the existing plug?

    Thanks
    Andrew

Yes, the davies will do just fine.
You may have to flip the fan blade over to get correct air direction.
There is a certain way to mount the fan, I think it was wires in from the bottom, possibly a vent/drain hole at that location.

similar product from supercheap fits & has worked well for a few years

wiring hookup ? - check that it's live when a/c is "on" (in case the old fan motor has blown the fuse)

Some people have used other fans, including those from Falcons, I've read on here.
We got two used ones from British Offroad which they had taken off wrecks and they work fine. Might be worth ringing around some LR places, as you might save some money if they have any used ones.
As was said above, it should be set to work when the air-con is on.

Thanks for your replies. I have ordered a 12" Davies Craig fan. The original is 10" but I am able to fit the larger 12" just in behind the grill.

Pick it up this afternoon so will post pics once installed

    Cheers
