    County - swapping a V8 for a V8?

    Hi all
As some may be recall, I postponed sending Monty over the pits for WA as it was discovered a head gasket is leaking gas into the cooling system.
Thanks to a tip off from andy_d110, I've sourced a replacement engine.

This one is from an '89 RRC, so I have a couple of questions as to what the best way to go is. The motor was allegedly rebuilt 30k kms ago and he removed the heads to confirm the condition as the car was running exclusively on gas. He bought it to slot into a Nissan 260Z.

With heads and valley cover off, all looks to be clean and in good condition, no sign of wear and the cam looks unmarked and there is a roller timing chain fitted. The motor has it's own original heads, but the purchase included a pair of clean 4.6 heads...and a racing cam in a box .

So, do I rip my leaky heads off and throw the RRC ones on to get the existing motor running cool & happy again and re-face 'my' heads at a later date - saves pulling the engine etc?

Or, pull the existing motor and replace with the RRC, which then means "well, should do the clutch while it's out etc, etc".?

Or...can I put the 4.6 heads on, get a little better breathing and still have a spare engine for the future and a spare set of heads?

    What's the most effective choice?
    Cheers
    Mike

Whatever you do don't put racing cams in a street car. You'll have to idle at a really high RPM and it will be a pain in traffic... or anything other than flat out really.

Flagg, no sweat... I had no intention of using that cam!

Monty is to be used as a daily driver and tripper, when re-animated.

    Cheers
