    that makes sense.

So if LR changed the length of the ball joint, what else did the change, because I cant see them sending out vehicles with sagging rear ends to the showroom???

i had a look at the ball joints you sagested and will ring them again tomorrow. i can not see a taper on it in the photo
The MD ball joints were originally designed and manfactured by Mal Story as an answer to LR changing to a non servicable, non adjustable ball joint in the LR and RRCs. He later came up with the longer version when he was doing the bolt on portal boxes. That allowed for more link seperation at the axle to deal with the great forces the portals put on them. It just got picked up by guys doing spring lifts.

They are greasbale and adjustable. The bolt straight in and have the same stock taper

A pain probably, but see a machine shop if they can turn something out for you, or more simply modify something.

I was speaking with a mate (long time LR guru) trying to find more info on the different ball joints. None to add to that, but he suggested to just space the ball joint mounting bracket up if it is a concern. The bracket on the Sals rear axle is bolted on, unlike the Rover and P38 type housings. If the original ball joint was 1/2 longer, just get some 12mm plate and cut it out and use longer bolts.

Or maybe the later mounts are taller??? something would have had to change along with the ball joint length....
