dont have one on mine, however quick glance makes me think its been added to stop the carpet/vynle from peeling at the edges like mine are. (shoes catch on them and whatnot) After seeing this I may fit some to mine!

Just wondering if anyone else has one of these in their defender (i'm referring to the strip of alloy)? Am I correct in assuming that it didn't come from the factory looking like this?
Any suggestions as to its purpose?
Thanks
Tom

Very interesting. I thought they were just there to trap dirt and water underneath. Thanks for the replies I won't throw them out just yet!!
stock on mine, 2012 110 but mine step up to hold/cover the floor mat
I think someone has swapped yours over for some flat strips of aluminium,, if you dont have a
floor mat in the rear (its a straight oblong mat, clarks rubber can cut you one) it was probably done to hide that
they cut out heat and noise..

Ha ha. My 2014 version has this type of feature for holding mats down... however, in the back seat area they attached these strips before they put the rubber down!
Must have been too eager to get finished and have a cup of tea
