Timing Case Bolts
Hi everyone,
I did my timing belt a few weeks ago on the 300tdi but sheared off two of the bolts on the timing case with my superhuman strength.
I was wondering if people know where I can get some more or if it is acceptable just to get some from a bolt place.
Thanks
JP

They are all M8x1.25 bolts with a flanged head.
They are a specific shank length for each location in the timing case (lengths are listed in the workshop manual)
You could use standard bolts with a washer but the flanged bolts are much prettier.
I would say if you want new flanged bolts best bet would be your friendly Landy Dealer.
If you are happy with used bolts then sidle up to any landy mechanic, they should have an old tin stuffed full of them!

The factory bolts are soft and it is easy to bugger a head if they are corroded in place in any way. I replaced all mine with s/s socket head (allen key head) bolts which are easily purchased in the correct lengths from your local bearing shop.
Lube the thread with appropriate lube when you put them back - makes next time a bit easier.
For any flanged head bolt that requires replacement with a standard hex or socket headed bolt I have used washers and haven't had any problems (eg. exhaust manifold, timing cover etc).
