Dunno if it is too late for the OP but I have a pair of these lights, 100w.

I have them on my bullbar and also have 70W HID in the High beam and bought them for long distance touring.

    Here is my take.

They are very very bright lights, well made and aluminium housing. They actually look ok in the flesh and don't vibrate at all. So far so good.

The beam is a broad spot, with a guess of about 4 degrees of spread. My High beams throw a lot of light out and I wanted something that filled the light from about 300m out to infinity. These lights overlap my high beam about 150m out creating a bright spot which is too bright unless I set them too high. I am going to replace them with spot lights from the same seller in Melbourne. Sunyee I think it was. They seem to be ok.

    These would be great if
a)My High Beam didn't throw as far as it does and wanted lights that fill 200m to 500m ish
b)I was more interested in High country driving lights as opposed to outback long stretches.
c)I think they would be great on the roof as the pattern would be perfect from up higher.

    Hope that helps.

With a name like Boobook I'm surprised you need lights at all

Does anyone know of these as I want to buy two pairs and hook them up to my new LR expedition roof rack.
Am reluctant to spend $700 per pair on known brands.

I have 2 pairs of the 4 inch version of the Beamax HID lights (spot beam) mounted on my roof rack (slung beneath the front bar). The lights are absolutely fine - they are a little stuttery when warming up but when 1 pair was $50 and the other $67 you can't complain!

I think they look pretty good and whilst the spiral reflector seems to be based entirely on pseudo science marketing BS it doesn't make them worse, it just doesn't obviously make them better in the way that they would have you believe.

Thanks for the feedback. I haven't got around to it yet but now am leaning towards LED driving lights.
Got my eyes on these http://m.ebay.com.au/itm?itemId=261391687375

    Cheers

My recommendation is hids on the bar and leds on the roof - best all-round combo I've found (and I've tried a few).

That was my thinking too but at the moment I have my old hella halogen on the A-Bar and I want to put the LED on roof rack.
One concern I have is bonnet reflection and want to find out other member experience from roof mounted lights. I have the LR expedition rack.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1408069362.313310.jpg

I have no reflection issues (except for the very tip of one uhf antenna) from my 20k lumen light bar, but it's on a 3/4 length rack.

Frankly, the roof led is working much better than I expected - I'd definitely recommend it.
